Security

A group of parents- distinguished academics all- who teach at a prominent South Delhi College affiliated with Delhi University- called a few days ago to raise the question of security at the School.

As all of us know, the overall security at the school is not very strict. Perhaps it needs to be. Here are their specific concerns which I have summarized. Please add your comments and let us have a proper discussion on this before I bring it up with the Principal.

  1. Multiple entrances. The School has several entrances- from Sarvodaya, the Ashram entrance, the Main Gate. These need to be closed during school hours. We do not recommend placing guards at these points, as they are usually not equipped to tackle serious threats.
  2. Parent IDs: Should parents or guardians be provided with ID which can be presented at the entrance?
  3. Store relocations: It may be necessary to shift Matri store to a more accessible point. One suggestion is to have an additional gate beyond Matri store, as the Meera Nursery might not be functional in the next academic year, so access to the UCO bank will also not be an issue.
Please let us know how you feel about this. In this new climate, a little precaution may be wise.

I agree with regard to placing armed guards, providing ID's to parents,
Store relocation. how about surveillance cameras to be installed and a proper control room for 24 hrs camera control and recording to keep an eye on the people's movement in and around the school?

thanks doc for raising an imp issue and being pro-active

regards

as a parent we would definitely request the school to implement the following:
1.to start with increase number of guards and get an accredited security agency in place.
2.both when bus arrives and leaves there must be dedicated teachers manning the routes eg 1 teacher for 2 buses plus security. let them check for that no unwanted elements loiter around which i have seen a number of times.
when departing each bus route must have a line which then a teacher escorts to the bus and sees the bus off.
suggestions like elctronic surveillances etc and any step to upgrade is welcome and we as parents should contribute liberally to make the school same for our kids.
let the school call for a good acreditted firm to do this and implement a fool proof method for the safety of our kids and let the parents who have expertise in these matter take a pro-active role in this matter.

Another parent has suggested that it may be a good idea if we have a plan for dealing with contingencies in general. Parents who live nearby can help greatly in this regard...

I would like to bring to the notice the number of trips that are being organised.
First of all the places are very remote, not equipped with all facilities, no adequate security is there.
Also , with the number of riots increasing and every other school is cancelling their trips, why is it that MIS does not think about it.
I The total money collected actuallyu spent on the trip ?
